Atreyu Brings Metalcore Power to Downtown Minneapolis
Atreyu, the metalcore band from Orange County, California, has been a fixture in the heavy music scene since forming in 1998. Known for blending aggressive metal riffs with melodic choruses, the band helped shape the early 2000s metalcore movement. Albums like Suicide Notes and Butterfly Kisses (2002) and The Curse (2004) gained national attention and established their signature dual-vocal sound.
After more than two decades, Atreyu remains an active force, evolving with lineup changes and stylistic shifts while maintaining a strong fanbase. Their live shows are a major draw, often featuring high energy, crowd interaction, and a mix of both classic tracks and newer material.
One recent highlight was a live concert at Skyway Theatre in downtown Minneapolis. The venue, known for hosting diverse acts across electronic, hip-hop, and metal genres, provided an ideal setting for Atreyu’s intense performance. Fans filled the historic theater for a full-scale metal show, where the band powered through a setlist that included early hits and songs from recent albums like Baptize.
The Minneapolis show reinforced Atreyu’s reputation for delivering tight, high-impact live sets. Vocalist Brandon Saller led the charge with a commanding presence, backed by pounding drums and guitars that cut through the room’s acoustics. The Skyway Theatre’s intimate layout amplified the experience, allowing the crowd to stay close to the action.
Atreyu continues to tour and release new music, staying relevant in a constantly shifting genre. Their willingness to experiment while staying connected to their roots has kept them in rotation for longtime fans and newcomers alike.
For metal fans, especially those in the Twin Cities, catching Atreyu at the Skyway Theatre offered a reminder of what a great metal show looks and sounds like: loud, direct, and full of energy.

If you pierce the skin and pull back the layers, you inch closer to your essence. Norma Jean invite this level of intimately incisive immersion. An avalanche of jagged sonic hues, off-kilter samples, grunge- drenched guitars, noise rock exorcisms, hardcore screams, and slashed-throat poetry encode the essence of the Georgia band on their ninth full-length offering, Deathrattle Sing For Me [Solid State]. The group—Cory Brandan [vocals], Grayson Stewart [lead guitar], Clay Crenshaw [guitar], Matt Marquez [drums], Michael Palmquist [bass], and Matthew Putman [drums, percussion, songwriting]—plunge into unparalleled emotional depths, as if their very existence depended upon the catharsis these 13 tracks promised…
